I'm quite a new user to Photoshop (using Paint shop pro V7 up until recently) so this is probably an easy one to answer.

I have 3 small thumbnail images and want to place them all into a banner side by side but would like them to blend seamlessly from one image to the next rather than having hard edges to them

Assuming this is possible, how do I go about it?

thanks

Neil

Put the images onto 3 different layers but overlap each one a little. On the second and third layers, use a soft eraser over the overlapped areas. Better yet, create a layer mask on layers 2 & 3 and draw a black-white gradient over the overlapped areas.

Hi,

Using the layer mask as blueark said is your best option and produces the best results. Do you know how to do that?

Hi,

Making a layer mask is quite easy to do. Open your image, and make sure that your Layers Palette is open. Overlap each of your layers the way you want them to be overlapped. Next, select the layer of an image, then look down at the bottom of the layers palette. There is a little square with a circle inside it (hold your mouse over it, to make sure it says 'Add Layer Mask') then click on it. Notice how your layer now has 2 thumbnails. Your next step is to select the gradient tool and choose a linear foreground to background gradient on the options palette/bar. Then with the thumbnail on the right selected draw a gradient fill from just inside the egde and drag just past the edge (you will have to experiment with what works best, but when doing this drag from inside the edge to beyoind the edge to get the best effect). If the edge isn't looking the great then notice inbetween the 2 thumbnails then is a chain icon. Click on that to unlock the layer mask and click on the right thumbnail and then apply the same action as dragging the picture around but this will actually be moving the layer mask. Then click where the chain icon used to be and it will re-appear. Add a layer mask to each image you wish to have fade out into the next picture.

Hope this helps!
