Is BASIC so outdated that they do not even carry programming books now? I was in Borders the other day and could not find ONE book on BASIC. There were books that included BASIC as one of the languages, but nothing devoted to just BASIC. Everything was Visual Basic, I guess that is the predominant programming language?

insofar as the latest languages go, yes QB is outdated. Not to mention that microsoft no longer supports any further development for this language, that's probably why the have now released it as freeware (if I'm wrong please correct me) at least QB 1.1.

However, QB is definitely a good language to get your feet wet in programming. The ONLY problem with QB as a starting point is that when you try to switch to another language, you'll want to go back to QB because of its simplicity.

As far as getting books on the subject, you could try a local library. If you take a look in a telephone directory you may find a not-so-well-known bookstore that may have older books. You would be wise to take a look in the help files for some examples as well. See, Borders is nice, but what you have to understand is that they are out to make a buck. That means, "OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW". So they most likely won't have anything on the shelves--but I'm sure if you ask the service desk, they'll try to find one for you...it due to the bucks again...see what i'm saying?

Well that's enough ranting, I'll leave you to your adventures. Good Luck.

Go to ebay and look for msdos 3 and 4. Both carried good documentation on GW basic. Then Q was a step up , which so far I'm resisting.

Resistance is futile, Ed. You will be assimilated.

Actually, you may be surprized at how much easier Qbasic is compared to GW and how much more you can do with QB45 or QB70.

Still, GW was quite revolutionary and I fully understand the sentimental attachment. Sort of like that good-old pair of engineer boots I once wore. I couldn't let go of them until my dog ate them.

Actually they will plant the GW manuals with me. Along with some other stuff I've accumulated. You sure do collect stuff when you're on the trailing end of technology.
BTW, does anybody need any IBM 402 carry clips? How about IBM 031 read brushes?

I can give you a Quick Basic v2.01 manual. Where are you (I'm in NZ). I still use v2.01 commercially for some fairly heavy duty medical database work, it's fine and my users do not wish to change to gui. !! Still earns me a buck to live on.
