Basic look of Office 2007 is different than when I installed it

I am trying to figure out how to get the "Pretty" look back for Office 2007. When I first installed it, I got a blue background with a colorful "Office Button". Now, however, I have the old gray background, and the office button is gray and black (really ugly). Any ideas?

Have you changed your Windows appearance settings? Or changed the performance settings (visual settings specifically)? Have you done anything like that AFTER you installed Office?

I did change my resolution settings for a few minutes and then changed them back... I have not changed the power settings.

That wasn't really what I was talking about. I was talking about these options:
[ol]
[li]Right-click "My Computer", choose "Properties", click the "Advanced" tab, "Performance Settings", under the visual settings - did anything change there - if you unchecked one of a couple different items, that would change the appearance of everything.[/li]
[li]Right-click on the desktop, choose "Properties", then the "Appearance" tab. Make sure you didn't change the main setting there to Windows Classic or something.[/li]
[/ol]

Of course, these are the case if it seems that EVERYTHING now looks the "gray" way as apposed to just Office. If it's ONLY Office, then "you've got me" as to what it might be.

Unfortunately, it is not my Windows Appearance settings. The Office program is the only one that looks weird. The Windows Start menu and desktop is still Windows XP look. However, the desktop icons lost the transparancy at the same time as the Office went ugly and the settings are all what they should be for transparancy. This is really frustrating me, I can't find anything on this anywhere. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for yours so far...

Hmm, the Windows Icons losing transparency....
I know that trait is controlled under the performance settings - it's one of the bottom options, I forget the name... I think it is right next to "Use image for each icon" or something like that. But it is one of the bottom 5 options of the performance - visual settings. That would make me think that at least some of your settings got changed there.

One thing you could try is to change all your visual settings to unchecked ("Best Performance"), hit "OK", go back in, and then set it back to "let windows decide", and hit "OK" again, and see if that might fix it.

Also, you might want to make sure you have any/all Office updates in case they have one relating to this issue.

The setting for transparent icons is "Use drop shadows for icon lables on the desktop" according to other sites I've been to, and that is selected. I did try to do as you said with the "Adjust for best performance" and "Adjust for best appearance" and then back to "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer". I have also checked the Windows update site but it says I have all the updates for Office 2007 already.

Have you gone in to WOrd, Options, Popular and changed the Colour Scheme setting from Blue to Black?

Are you using Vista?
