Hello all,

I am new to Cisco Routers. I'm a 19 year old college student who is interested in learning to configure a router. I have a few basic questions.

1. What kind of cable to you use to connect a t1 csu/dsu Wic module to the t1 jack in the wall that the phone company installed? Do you use a regular CAT 5 cable?

2. If an ISP has setup a T1 line, what hardware is needed for setup? Cisco router,IOS software, t1-csu/dsu wic? anything else?

thanks for your help!

A regular CAT5 will work.. but if you were to order the "official" Cisco T1 cable, it's a bit different. It looks to be a shielded two pair cable. I've only seen it once as most times, it's the CAT5 that is used.

I'm assuming you have a T1 connection that the ISP has pulled into your office..etc? You would need a connecting cable..assuming they put a "biscuit" on the end and not left it punched down somewhere, a router, either a T1 DSU/CSU WIC(intergrated DSU/CSU) or a serial port with a V.35 cable and a external CSU/DSU, UPS for the router, and I prefer a min IOS of 11.3.. 12 is nice but not everyone is running it yet.

The config is pretty straight forward and cisco has samples on their site as does the serial port FAQ here.
