Avaya release an update for the Linux based systems.
You can download it from the support site and read the tech tip as the 8. appsserver needs manual install.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

As it is simply an RPM file it is just as easy to scp the file & install it manually as it is you use the web administration anyway.

if you are feeling a little braver you could create your own repository with security fixes & ad a repo file to yum ready for the next one ;-)

Now if only Avaya had though of that...

Did anyone notice this line;

"Note: Before applying this update please ensure that the IP Office products are running the current service pack - 8.1 Service Pack 10 or 9.0 Service Pack 4."

Implies we have to upgrade all the components before applying the patch.

they want to sell more upgrade licenses :)

No, the reason for it is that only 8.1 and 9.0 are supported so that is the only ones they really have to make work and care about. Having that said it also means that if you are on those releases you can upgrade to one of these before applying the patch.

I suppose my question is - Can we use the patch on 8.1 SP1-9 and 9.0 SP1-3? Assume the answer is yes, but we all know that it will be unsupported by Avaya?!

I only have one to do but it's a big one, so I'm not going to risk it and will probably upgrade first, then apply it.

If i had bigger bollocks i'd wait for the next SP as the doc say's it includes the fix, but the client is desperate for this to be patched and the idea of going day 1 on a large system gives me shivers.

not arrogant, just succinct.

Yeah, we have about 10-15 out there so quite a bit of work. Luckily none of our clients are sh*tting themselves about it so we have time to plan it all out.

Redhat's RPM package format is quite intelligent, it includes a list of all the software dependencies required by the application being installed.
the application (in this case bash) will not install if the version of Linux being run does not contain the correct version of any required librarys. if the RPM file installs then all will be fine.

I will be surprised if bash has any significant dependencies.
