I know this can be done I just cant remember how to execute the command.
I want to execute a command then immediately move it to the background.
 
CTRL-Z

(or more technically stty -a to see what your susp character is if it isn't control Z)

But why not just

whatever &

Thanks for the assist. I could not remeber the ampresand. I am retooling my career. Spent the last 15 years with MAC and Windows. Thought I would go to a more stable enviroment.
