I have a link to one of the site running on a 64K leased circuit. We have add a few users and since then they started to experienced slow in internet and e-mail response. We have MRTG (Management Router Traffic Graph)running and have noticed that the maximum traffic comming into that port is 97% and the maximum traffic going out is 42%.

It seems to me that I have to upgrade this circuit to say 128K, but I need to make a baseline on this. I think the information above about the MRTG is not enough and Im seeking help if someone give me tips and information I can access that will help me make a baseline.

For example do a show interface on the routers and look for which lines that will help me determine that there is a need for an upgrade in speed of the circuit.

Hope someopne helps

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Try this look at the interface that this circuit is on and look at the reliabilty and load (tx and rx ) 12/255 255/255 . something like that to see if the load is high on the interface . Theres probably some other ways , however I can not remember them at this time, Sorry . Goood Luck !!!

The MRTG does a good job. Your recieve %97 incoming traffic because this is an internet connection. The 42% only represents a simple request wheb the 97 represnets a response like downloading a web page.

The load fator is max bandwidth to current bandwith. If the first number gets to 255 it is maxed. However, if the interface is capable of 4Mb of bandwith the 255 will represnet that and not the 64K of Bandwidth. The load indicater can be decieving.

I had to explain the same problem to a board who didn't understand technical aspects. Explain that if you have teen users on the network over 64K line you can only obtain 6.4 which is less then your average home user.
