Hey guys,
I'm going to be baselining a Win2k Server next week running MF 1.8. The box is going to be a Dual-PIII 1 ghz w/ 1GB of memory. This box is going to publish a Budget software and from what I understand of it....its a memory hog =(

What counters do you suggest I include during my baseline. Also, can I do an automated baseline?...ex: Mon-Fri 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.? I will be using perfmon to baseline this system.

Thanks!!!!!

P.S.
If you have any documentation could you please send it to chapin_g@mail.com

Well, if it's a memory hog, use counters such as Memory pages/sec and Memory available MBytes to get an overall picture - and I'd suggest using Processor %Processor Time as well.

Get several sessions up and see what happens over the launch period.

Next get some pilot users - say 10 or so - to use the app in earnest, and monitor this for a day or so.

You can then drill down a bit by monitoring Terminal Services Session / Working Set for All instances - or even home into individual users who are experiencing anomalies.

To get a good baseline, simply record logs over a pre-decided period of time - remember that these logs can get quite big.

You could, for example, monitor for 10 minutes with a very short refresh interval - the default is every second.

Then you may want to monitor for an hour with a longer refresh interval, say, 1 minute. If issues arise, go back to a shorter interval.

Any other counters are a combination of taste and what seems to be appropriate given the results of the basic tests I've described above.

This is just a guide based on my experience.

I hope it's helpful

Thx CitrixEngineer!!!
I appreciate your response and I will using those counters mentioned above.

Thanks again!

I have and am currently using Citrix Resource Management Tool. The Analysis tool assists in troubleshooting and future capacity planning. There is and application tool that will provide you with many memory and cpu indictators on any specific application loaded on the Citrix server. This tool is similar to the performance monitoring tool only it is done automatically.

It does cost extra $$$, but you maybe able to get a demo from Citrix.

Good Luck
