Hello all,
I am trying to find some insight on managing and monitoring our network using a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC). We have several different systems i.e. Linux and Windows as well as several different brands of systems i.e. ibm, dell, snap, generic. I know that Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) and BMC work together. I also know that IPMI software is generally generic. One thing though, I was installing the BMC on some machines and noticed that the BMC firmware is chip or board specific. Is this true? Also wanted to know where I would find this chip or board specific firmware before I try to upgrade it on the board thus preventing a major catastrophe. As you can tell I’m very new at this BMC IPMP stuff and was looking for some help before I make something explode. All of your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
