Has anybody tried to bar internal calls? AVAYA said it's not possible

Kind of defeats the purpose of paying all that good hard earned money for a new PABX just to block internal calls
But if you use a short code it will stop you dialing another extension
ie

701
701
Busy

Not sure that this will work IIRC extn nos. are checked befor shortcodes
you could set all phone to DND & add entry to the DND exeption list. 0N should allow external callers ok but I havnt had a chance to test this yet.

I agree with grandmaster that this seems a very pointless exercise

TRied blocking all users with variuos codes, spoke to Avaya they say you cannot block internal calls, even the no user user cant be blocked forinternal calls. Why bother buying a phone system! As this is a call centre get the supervisor to buy CCC then she can run reports on lazy gits and sack them!!

PS New feature requests just laughed at this suggestion!

I think there is a way of making the phone dial a number as soon as you go off hook. If you did this and made it dial a no such number it word sort of work.

Only sort of, I think this would probably block all calls unless the user was usin PM than internal would work again

On my test system the extensions are 13xx
For a user short code we put in 13N and feature busy with no phone number.
dialing 13 results in a busy signal therefor no dialing of anything in the 13xx extension range.

I have just tested this oon an IPO 1.4(22) & it does not work.
when testing did you dial a full extn no 13xx or did you dail 13 & wait?

the IPO process dialed numbers as follows:-

1) wait untill the user has dialed X didgets (Set in system\telephony & should be > than the no. off extn digits) or the user has paused for the dialing timeout 1 sec default

2) check to see if dialed digets match an internal extn. or Group

3) Proccess short codes & LCR's
DND & the DND exception list is still the only way I can think of achieving this but I would still like to know WHY bother? What reason is there to ban internal calls?

IPGuru, I think this is a Call[gorgeous] Centre and he wants to stop users chatting to each other [pc](Surely this should be down the he company mangement i hear you ask!)

This feature has been requested B4, but Avaya state they have no plans to include this in any future build...sorry guys

When testing, as soon as I dial 13 I get the busy tone. I don't even have time to attampt to dial the third digit.

To det this to work you need to set the Dial
Delay Count in system telephone to 2

It is possible to use the DSS keys and/or PhoneManager to bypass this "feature", so Managers/Supervisors would still be able to call staff.

Congratulations on spotting a solution to this unusual request

UNIVERSAL PLAN B:- When all else fails CHEAT!

Come to think of it, the Dial Delay had been set to 2 a long time ago.

Under "normal" circumstances dial delay count should eb set to 1 more digit than the number of ext digits. although with the short code we use to make park/ride more user friendly on 20XX terminals 2 digits more is safer.
it is when this count is reached or the dial delay time is exceeded that the system starts processing user input.

I still think this cheat was a good solution to a strange request Well spotted.

For those that missed it in previous posts

Short Code 2XXX
telephone No .
Feature Ride call

Where all exts are 2XX

press park on the 2030 & it will display the park bay no.
just dial the park bay to pick up the call

Just marked your post for tip master , you may not have realised why but I hadnt thought of it either, I can alrady think of places that I can modify this for use.
well done again

Many thanks to all, I'll give these a try.
