hello
I am wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction.
We have a hight number of Linux Servers and we are now looking at the best approach to doing a bare metal restore of these servers.
The product which will allow us to do a bare metal recovery would have to be flexible and would if possible not need a hight level of Linux knowledge .
Our environment consists of RHEL4 and RHEL5 servers . These mainly run on HP DL380 or HP DL320 servers .
We aim to upgrade all of our Redhat server to RHEL5 over the coming weeks months and our new platform will mainly be on HP hardware DL380 G5 or G4 generation.
We would want our recovery process to tie into IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) as this is our corporate backup product .
Currently we build our Linux RHEL5 servers by Linux kick start files. Our standard is : on small server we use Internal disk which would be have its raid set up from the HP smart Suite . ie the OS and the DATA would reside on the Internal Disk.
On the Larger data based system we would have our OS on the Internal disk and then we would attach out to an IBM DS8100 Storage server for the external disk. ie our data volumes groups would be created on External SAN based volume disks. We also use multi path drives on our servers for redundancy .
So Basically What we are looking for is :
A solution which will allow us to bare metal recovery these systems . The hardware would be the same or similar where possible but the hardware would might be a generation lower . ie if production is a G5 our recovery standby server may be a G5 or it may also be a G4 .
If you can give us some indication as to what products are out there and perhaps point us in the direction of what products you maybe be aware of
