I have Corel Draw 6. For years it was OK. Now I have problem with the
1, Bar code. After choosing in the Wizard Bar code I am getting message: "Fonts for this bar code symbology are not installed." This persist after 3 times uninstalling and installing the program and the same if I have chosen to run program from the installation disk.
2, I have some *.cdr files which can not be opened by the Corel Draw program. However, opening Windows explorer, clicking on the file, Corel Draw is opened and then also opened the file. Such a file I have to rebuild by copying and pasting layers and creating a new file. Then it works.

Putora,

You have to have the Bar Code Fonts installed. Reinstalling the application may not install the bar code fonts. Do a manual install and make sure you have that option checked on install.

Also, how many fonts do you have installed? I recommend 100 - 150 max, if you have more, then use Bitstream Font navigator that ships with CorelDRAW to uninstall and reinstall fonts as you need them. You can have as many fonts as you wish as long as you keep active fonts to a minimum.

The other problem is one I have never seen. I can only guess on it. Maybe it was made on a different vs of CD? Or possibly low level corruption. Does opening the file, then "save as" itself fix it? When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

The reason why I have reinstalled Corel 6 more times, was to get it "installed properly".
Before I have had W 95, later W 98 and there was no problem with the Bar code. Now I have W 98 SE and I do not know wether there is some connection or a connection that I have also switched from SB Value to Audigy sound card (which seems to not working properly as well or as I believe it should be.)
I assume that after checking box for installing Corel Utility - which include Bar code and checking boxes for all types of Bar codes, the installation of related fonts should happen automatically - at least I would expect.
I do not have Bitstream program. I have Corel Font Master only.
Looking in the directory of Corel Graphic installation disc, in the folder Barcode\Fonts\ are two folders Ttf and Type 1. Comparing to my folder on C drive : Corel\Barcode\Fonts there is only Ttf folder. Type 1 is missing.
An attempt to create a Bar code with Corel WP 7 , the message of Barcode Wizard was the same: "Font for this bar symbology are not installed." and then : "The attempt to convert a Windows metafile into WPG2 failed".

I have made an experiment: The missing folder Type 1 I have copied from installation disk by dragging to the C\Corel\Barcode\Fonts directory and then I have open Corel Fontmaster and try to instal it. The message was that the fonts are already installed - but I could not see them.
I have Browsed in Barcode fonts and click on the folder Ttf . The first folder has the name upchr-, the second v100001= and so on... This group is impossible to drag to the installed side. If I click Open the set of group is changed starting with the name 1C39HiP24DhTt.
Double clicking on some file, property box is opened, showing some common book type font in size 18. Changing the size below or up 18, the type of fond is changed. No matter on which font file I click, the same font, the same story.
What is concerning my second question: Yes the "strange" files, after "Save as" open normally. Disturbing is that also some of my newly crated cdr files are having the same problem. At least I know they are not yet lost. Thank you very much for your advise.

Wow.. long post.... let me try to answer the key points...

Did you have W95 installed, then upgrade to 98 and then upgrade to 98SE? If so, then your registry may be FUBAR. In my opinion, the MS upgrades can do freaky things and it is always best to install a clean vs rather than upgrade. In the real world, who has the $$ to always buy Bill Gates latest release? So... I think your best bet is to save and back up everything you can, reinstall windows and if you MUST use the upgrades, then go from 95 to 98SE.. then defrag & scandisk after rebooting and before reinstalling your apps.

Next.. NEVER drag and drop fonts to install. Always use a font management program, or in leiu of that use windows Control Panel>Fonts>Install Fonts...

After this, let me know how thngs are going... hope this helps When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
