barcodes?

At one location my storagetek l700e and windows master sees the media id and barcodes as AX1001 or IS1001. At a second location with an hp msl6030 and aix master the same tapes are seen as media id 1001L1 and 1001L1 but the barcodes show up as AX1001L1 and IS1001L1.

Obviously this means half my tapes are no good at the second location (dupe ids) BUT it also means I am not able to restore a backup done at location 1 to AX1001 to a server at location2 because even though the catalogs know the backup is on AX1001 and is requesting that media id it can only see 1001L1.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can make both sites see the tapes the same way?

Personally I would call Storage Tek and get them in there to make sure the L700's barcode scanner is working properly. I would also call Veritas on the issue.

How do your barcodes read? We've used the l700e for over 2 years with no trouble the way it is. We asked for the tapes to be coded as AX1001 but have noticed that Iron Mountains' lists sometimes say AX1001L1. I think its more the HP library that is wrong. We asked for LW1001 and are getting media ids of 1001L1 - that's just not what we asked for :)

Need to Build Media ID generation rule if 8 chars
1 Build media ID generation rule button
2 ROBOT (Select Robot #)
3 Barcode length = 8
4 Media ID generation rule = 1:2:3:4:5:6
5 Close

Need to do a VMCHANGE
1 vmchange -m 6_char_id -barcode 6_char_id L1

Thanks! I was just reading that same thing but you've made it much easier to follow.

The above is an example, you must change it to fit your needs.

Our L5500 sees 200155, NBU sees 200155, the actual label is 200155L1.

Alternate IBM lib sees 200155L1, so we use the above to correct it.

Your situation appears on the frontside on the volser.

Okay - I'm still not getting this right. I want to change the media id from 1001L1 to AX1001. I updated the media generation rules and reinventoried but they are still showing up as 1001L1.

What is the specific syntax for my situation for the vmchange?

vmchange -m AX1001 -barcode AX1001

but how am I supposed to tell it which media id to update or was the inventory supposed to help that.
