Hi,

I am using a free Delphi Barcode component(code 128a) downloaded from

Now i have a problem in setting the width. The width of the barcode varies with the content. But we dont c this property when we are using list & label software which has a built in tool for creating barcodes.

So is there any delphi component where we can set the width of the barcode to constant size without depending on the content.

I may be wrong Raja, but to me it doesn't make sense to set the width when the content varies in length. The whole purpose of code128 is that it actually contains detail, unlike say ean13 where the detail is in the system somewhere hidden behind the product code, and the barcode is always 13 characters.

Setting the width when the content varies in length means changing the width of the code of each character, and taken to an extreme this could end up as an unreadable blurry smudge because there are too many black and white bars squashed into too small a place.

Bit like saying all novels must be 100 pages. If you've got "War and Peace" you need an electron microscope to read it compared to say "Noddy goes to Town" which could have huge letters

I don't think you have a Delphi issue at all; it's a facet of the nature of a barcode holding an arbitrary amount of data.

Thnx a lot for your reply... I read the specifications about c128 barcode and i found out that the length of the barcode varies with the content. And this was confirmed by your reply (ofcourse well said using that Novel example ;-) ).

But i still wonder How the barcodes printed using Lable & go software have same width independent of the content ... :)

I have asked the label&go community for clarifications....
so lets c wat those ppl do with the barcode.
