BARCODE IN A CRYSTAL REPORT

I am using Crystal 10 and I am trying to do labels in a Crystal report and the barcodes will print out but I can not get them to scan. I have put the '*' at each end and I have tried % % at each end. I have the font code390ne loaded on my machine. Any other help would be appreciated.

Barcodes can be tricky with the type(s) of printers you are sending it out to - and how the scanneris set-up.

Try the same barcode font at a number of different sizes in MS-WORD, putting the * at front and back of your numbers.

If you print-off a couple of different pages of larger and larger barcodes from MS-WORD - try scanning the resulting formats into something like NOTE PAD. That will remove both Crystal and your scanning application from the mix.

Once you have confirmed a scannable FONT size and Format - use it in your CRYSTAL REPORT.

Also note, if you print/export to PDF from Crystal you may loose some Barcode quality - and need to increase the FONT size further...

Just to follow on from MJRBIM's post, if you are trying them out in Word you will need to choose Edit -> Undo AutoFormat after typing the asterisk at the end, since Word will automatically convert anything between asterisks into bold text, which is useless for barcodes. We use a font called FRE3OF9X.TTF here, and we've had pretty consistent good results with it. Google the name and you should find it quite easily.

If you need to fit the barcode field into a certain width but find you still cannot scan it, something we have tried is adding the field to the report more than once and overlapping it slightly vertically so that the field becomes taller without expanding horizontally - changing the font size would not do this.

is used?
