Does anyone have any experience using a barcode scanner within a browser application?

I could really use some help on this one...

Hi,

Doesn't it work like a keyboard? Use a text box to "catch" the code!

I am setting up a virtual cash register for a national application. Gonna use a web browser if I can, which I see no reason not to at this point.

This way they can work off a single bookeeping system as well as a central inventory distribution center.

I think a lot of the scanners connect via the keyboard port (you plug the scanner into the PC, and the keyboard into the scanner).

So, in that case, do like LnOrs says and just use a text box to catch the scan. There'll be some operator training involved to make sure they have the cursor in the right field before scanning, but that's minor.
