Hi!
I'm probably being a bit daft here, but the Networker Admin guide is a bit vague on this subject.
I want to ensure that some bar-code labeled tapes, distinquished with a certain human-readable string on the cartridge label (the barcode and volume name configured as the same) are associated with a certain pool.
The reason is that our end-of-week, end-of-month and end-of-year backups are always preceded with the normal daily backups for the Default pool. However I want operators to be able to extract the used cartridges from the autoloader, and ensure that tapes with say a "MT..." string on the barcode label go to longer term storage (12 months) than those with say "DT..." on the label that come back in 27 days, and those with say "YT..." don't really come back at all.
What I'm not really sure about is how to introduce new cartridges with the appropriate labelling format. Without the labels yet (I'm not taking that chance) I can't test and figure it out for myself (and so this query might be meaningless) - should I be contemplating labelling each cartridge I am likely to use, loading them up in the correct sequence? Or will unused cartridges be associated with the right pool based on the format of their labels (that would match a template) when a scripted bar-code scan of the autoloader is performed?
Dunno if thats clear - but if you can make sense of it, any assistance would be gratefully received.
