Bar Chart Look Flat

Hello All

One of the charts in my report prints flat looking. It prints the data how it is supposed to. Except the bar looks more like a line. The bars on my other bar charts touch at the sides. This one however has big spaces in between the bars.

I have two groups in my report. One is a formula called @InvestmentOrder. The formula orders my funds based on a field the way that I want them to be ordered. It looks kind of like this. If table.field = "Large Cap" then 1
else if table.field = "Mid Cap" then 2. The second group is a database field called FundID.

When I set up the chart in the data tab I used the Group layout. In the "On Change of" drop down box there is only one option and that option is @InvestmentOrder and Table.FundID. In the "Show" drop down box I select the sum of table.TransferAMT

Does anybody know why this might be causing this?

Thanks Jonathan

In XI, you can right click on a bar->chart options and adjust the gap to eliminate it or make it whatever width you like.

lbass thanks for the reply. I'm not sure that is what my problem is. The bars look fine in design view. I saved a picture of what my chart is doing here: I use depth effect in the chart.
Thanks
Jonathan

Design view doesn't show the features of the actual chart. What you see in preview is what needs to be adjusted.

Did you try my suggestion? What version of CR are you using?

-LB

I have tried your suggestion but it didn't seem to work. I am using CR 2008. Were you able to view the file?

Jonathan

No, I couldn't view the file, but I'm not sure what it would add to the discussion--your bars are too narrow. I don't have CR2008, but in CRXI, if you took the steps I mentioned it would correct the problem. So please explain the steps you took in trying to implement my suggestion and explain what went wrong.

In preview view I right clicked on one bar, selected chart options, and changed the gap width to 0. When I close out of the chart options dialog box the chart bars still look flat. Am I missing something?

Thanks
Jonathan

As long as you hit OK, not cancel, that should have done the trick. I don't have CR2008, but if this chart is in a group section, you might have to indicate somewhere that you mean to apply this to charts in all groups, not just the selected chart.

Hi LB I had the same problem while i was using the bar charts. I was using crystal xI release 2. I have tried all that however the bars were still flat....I couldnt get through the problem and the report was put to hold by management so I have stopped working on it ..otherwise i would have posted the same problem in the tektips. The gap between the bars will decrease but we cant make the bars fat ..

If the gap decreases, the bars have to expand--unless you are saying the width of the entire chart is decreasing as the gap decreases?

-LB

I'd like to know more about this if anyone is still monitoring this particular thread. I've written various macros in our CRChart add-on to solve these kinds of issues, but there may also be a way to do it with basic CR chart techniques.
