banner img as .gif blinks, but when i open/edit/save, no more blink.

i have several banners that am altering to match my site design. the images start of as blinking gifs, but after opening with ms paint, editing, then resaving, there's no more animation. it's now just a static image.

any ideas how to edit and still maintain the animation effect?
