Balancing Witness Recorders

We have 2 recorders and do station side recording. To "balance" the volume of calls between the servers, we've been told "randomly" assign 1/2 of the stations to one server and 1/2 to the other server.

This just doesn't seem to make sense. Even if we "randomly" assign them, there's nothing to say that volume couldn't be higher on one server than the other based on the call volume of the stations.

In addition, this requires us to keep a list of what extensions are on which server. This can lead to mistakes and if a station is added to both servers it causes issues with the ability to conference and transfer because both recording servers attach to the call.

What are you doing to balance your call volume on your recorders?

Quoting only proves you know how to cut and paste.

What kind of recording, compliance or QM?

Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.

Compliance.

Then you are absolutly right, no point trying to balance, cause you need to record all calls, but you never know the load.
They probarbly told you to go the 2 recorder route, case 1 just did not have enough capacity.

What I would do in you situation is:
- get someone that can provide the maximum capacity for 1 recorder.
- make sure you spread the stations evenly among both recorders (and make sure you stay under the max capacity of each)
- DO NOT spread the station randomly, make sure that for each "department" half the station are recorded on recorder A and the other half on recorder B.

That way you are not balanced, just sure you do not max out the capacity of each recorder, and yes it is required that you maintain a lust of which sttion is recorded on which server (sorry bout that)

If you feel this is not the right way to go, you could go trunk-side recording, get the data fort the calls and station details via cdr/smdr. If needed start recording incoming or even intra-switch cdr.
might be that based on the station number wittnes could delete the calls where compliance recording is not required.
Or get seperate trunks for the departments that require compliance recording
