I am a seasonal Linux user and i choose linux slackware 8.1 as my weapon.
Heres the deal:
*Full installation of Slackware 8.1
Goal:
*To make a proxy/firewall server
Goal Status:
*90% A Ok!
Problem:
*I installed Firestarter 8.3 on my Slack box, it work fine. But the Hit List doesnt show up squat. I did scan the slackware thread at linuxquestions.org and found that i should edit my firestarter file located at /root/.gnome2/firestarter file and add the ff lines:
[Files]
syslog=/var/log/syslog
and it didnt work. still it doesnt show didly squat! I tried to edit/open up the syslog file manually using mc and showed something like access to 192.165.1.3 (My Private Network) or something..... its too long, out of curiosity i deleted syslog file (is that bad?) anyway as soon as i rebooted my Linux box... and look at the /var/log directory it created a file named syslog.1.
Oh another thing... when i installed firestarter and run it for the first time it seems like its looking for the exact location of the iptables executable file (/sbin) "error in firestarter.sh" so i decided to open and edit that file and put /usr/sbin (is that bad?) anyway it worked it doesnt show anymore errors.
Firestarter is build for Gnome ryt? well i tried to run it under KDE and it work ok (should i run it on gnome?)
I hope some1 can shed somelight on this topic, i want to create a good firewall/proxy. I'm not an advance Linux Networking Guy... so please be gentle
Tnx a lot!
I created this same thread at Linuxquestion.org but it seems nobody seems to know/care.. (maybee their busy)
