I have a DLT4000 That was in a server moved from a child company of ours. I Also have 26 tapes that came with it. When i put one of those tapes in the drive and try to inventory it, It shows up as <BAD MEDIA> in the device list and when the inventory fails it reports that the device is not ready. If I put one of the Tapes from My DLT1 (Same brand make and model of tape) into that drive, It works fine.

Are there any suggestion as to How I might be able to use these tapes? I dont care about the data.

Regards,
Dave

You can get the tapes professionally erased. They would need to be sent out, at a cost of about $2 per tape. Search google "dlt tape erase",

one serice below....

The tape erase requires very high gauss levels, so this must be done with the correct equipement.

Before your professionally erase it, try this:

Inventory them and then chose LABEL MEDIA.

I believe the problem is with the HEADER part of the tapes. Also, this gets overlooked sometimes, check to see if the tab that 'write protects' the tape is in the proper position.
