Bad station ports on ACS R3.0?

I have a Lucent Partner ACS R3.0 and it seems as though none of the station ports are working. I plugged in an AT&T MLS-34D into all of the ports, one port at a time, and am not getting any lights on the phone. I thought maybe it was the phone, so I also tried each port with an AT&T MLS-6 and still nothing.

When I plugged in a standard phone into the station port PFT I and disconnected the power to the unit, I was able to get dial tone. But when the unit is powered up, the standard phone does not work at all (in any port).

Am I doing something wrong? Or could it possibly be both of my AT&T phones are bad?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You didn't mention if the green light on the face of the pack was lit. It should be on. Is this ACS in a 5 slot carrier?; or by its self. If its in a 5 slot carrier, power down and remove it and plug power directly to the acs. see if it powers up. Sounds like the power supply has gone out.

Is the green LED lit on all modules?
Try unplugging all modules except the processor, do you get a green LED and do the phones work? (either system or S/L).

Remove the processor from the carrier and plug the power cord directly into the processor, do you get a green LED and do the phones work? (either system or S/L).

If not, you might have a bad processor or two bad phones. Do you have a 'known' good phone to test with?

You can also do a 'rough' test using a butt-set, pulling dialtone by going off-hook on pins 4&5 (w/bl pair) and hear a 'chattering' noise by going on pins 3&6 (w/or pair or w/gr pair depending on the plug) in monitor mode.

I apologize for not including all of the information. It does have a green light when plugged in and it is a stand alone unit (no carrier). I do have a butt set and will check the unit with it. Thanks for your help!

Franke,
No dial tone on Pins 4&5 with the butt set and no "chattering" on pins 3&6. Again, if I unplug the unit, then I get dial tone on pins 4&5 with the butt set. Another thing I notice is the sound of a relay (or something like it) clicking on when I power up the unit. It's just a single click. Thanks again for your help!

David,

Sounds like your processor needs repair. Our recommendation is to always rebuild the power supply - 4 or more key components should be replaced on all but the newer AVAYA labeled R4.0 thru R6.0 processors - and some R3.0s.

There are probably typical board level components that have failed and need replaced. We can help if you can't find someone local with a good knowledge of all the challenges to professionally repair an ACS processor.

The "single click" is normal, as for getting dialtone in the PFT (Power Failure Transfer) port, that too is normal. It certainly sounds like a bad processor. :(
