Hi,

I have a BCM 400 which has bad sectors. The original HD was a version 3.7 but then it was upgraded to 4.0. I purchased a replacement HD from exsmogger on ebay. So I connected the new drive but am still not able to connect via null modem (serial connection). One thing I noticed but could be wrong is that it appeared that the original disk was linux partitions but the new replacement HD is partitioned in NTFS. When I hook up a random drive to the BCM the drive lite turns on but whenever I hook up the original or replacement drive the HD lite never turns on or shows any type of activity.

I'm sure there is a lot I am missing but any help getting this system will be appreciated.
Also is there are any techs that can fix it and in the 818 Canoga Park, CA, 91304 area I would be happy to pay for a tech.
The company I used in the past I can not get a hold of so I am looking for one local.

Thank you.
Albert

I purchased a replacement HD"
What kind of HD?
Which release did you purchase? 4.0 or 3.7?

4.0 an up is Linux
3.7 and down is Windows NT

What settings did you use to connect with serial....have you connect ok before?

As for a tech you live beside a large city....there must be tons of techs.
Try adjusting your search methods or yellow pages maybe?.

I bought R3.7, the original disk was 3.7 so I figured follow that but it was upgraded to 4.0 at some point.
I see the error in doing that now. I didn't know there would be a format difference NT to Linux. I just thought it would be an upgrade patch only.

I am using Putty, connecting serial using 9600 8-N-1. I have never connected to it via serial. The tech that worked on it in 2010 did connect via serial when the system was reconfigured.

Yea I know living near LA there will be tons of techs out here. Any recommended? I've left a couple messages but have not received a call back yet.

Not the place to find techs here though.

So if it is upgraded from 3.7 to 4.0 then its officially 4.0 which means you need to purchase the same which is a 4.0 HD.

No flow on the connection too.
It may need to partially boot before you see the initialization screen.

Wait for others to reply to confirm anything.

Yea I just sent an email to exsmogger to see if he will exchange the HD for a 4.0. Do you know where I could get the iso files for version 4.0. I tried downloading them from Avaya.com support site but they can't find my sold-to number so I am getting denied on the download.

Thx for the None on flow, that option I did not have set. Although it didn't help :(

Yea I am not sure how to get it to partially boot. It's a brand new 3.7 HD but I see no activity on the HD lite at all.

The R4 upgrade process makes changes to the BIOS settings. That's why the R3.7 won't boot. Even if you changed the BIOS settings to get the R3.7 to boot, your current license file wouldn't work anyway as it's in a different format from the NT based BCM's.

Thanks for the reply here also Brian.
I contacted you via ebay. Let me know if my last request works for you. I will order the 4.0 disk right now.

I used a null modem cable from the BCM serial port to COM1 serial port on the PC. The cable even says "null modem" on it.
