I installed a new 4MB Kingston Flash Module in a 2600 series router. Now I'm unable to TFTP an IOS image to it. It gives me checksum errors and tells me I have a bad Magic Number every time.

I'm using the built-in tftpdnld command. The download looks like it runs fine (eight or ten rows of bangs) then returns with that error. How do I format the flash to properly accept the IOS?

Muchas Gracias!

Hi,
You can try formatting the flash first, "format flash:" then try the tftp download again - if you've already done that or it doesnt help, try reformatting and copying the software via xmodem. (it's a good idea to whack the console baud rate right up first to 115200 on your router and terminal emulator).
Couple of other things to check, how big is the IOS image you're trying to load? - what tftp server are you using?

Hope this helps...
Phil. If everything is coming your way then you're in the wrong lane.

Not sure if this is your problem or not...

One possible solution (Assuming you have the correct type of flash for your 2600):

The older version of 2600 boot roms fail using the tftpdnld command after loading once they confirm the checksum. You can set the variable off (0) so that the checksum is not checked.

TFTP_CHECKSUM--Performs a checksum test on the image. 0=checksum off, 1=checksum on. The default is 1

Hope that helps...

4 MB of flash sounds like an awefully small amount for most images...what image are you trying to load?

Turning off the checksum did the trick. Thank you SO MUCH!

duh! I meant I replaced a 4MB with a 16MB flash. Glad SOMEBODY edits my copy.
