Has anyone else been experiencing problems with bad/flaky patch cords that come out of the box of Mitel 53xx phones (those black 7 footers)

Since about the beginning of December I will get about 3-5 bad patch cords per 20 phone install. Some might work for about a week then stop working. Tested them with my continuity tester and they will pass - plug them into a phone and nothing. I will then use a non-Mitel patch cord and it will work every time.

Just something that has been annoying and time consuming on each of my installs

Not me. No issues. I'm in NA though and if memory serves, you are not. Might be regional.

I think that if you are having this many failures you should report it directly to Mitel as there could be a manufacture issue.

I have to say I agree with kwb I have not had any failures and we installed 1000's of phones with the new black leads.

Me either and have been deploying a number of different types of sets recently.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

we had a problem around Sept 2009 with those 7 foot black ones. about 20% were failing for about 100 phones over a couple of installs. the symptom was the phone would get power, but no ethernet (sitting in DHCP discovery). the LED for that port on the data switch wouldn't light up. sent them to Mitel and they said they found a problem with a supplier.
have not had the issue since.

I did't start having the problem until December 2010. Up until then I wasn't having any problem with them.

The phones will sit in DHCP discovery (as RossBC described) or if I use them to go from the phone to the computer I would not get a connection on the PC

Maybe they moved your supplier over to us :)

Will keep this in mind.

I have seen it too a while ago (could be 2009)
I haven't been working with Mitel for a while.
You could crimp them again but it only fixed about 50% for me.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
