I am trying to create a very simple component. I have used the Component wizard, but when I try to install the component (its ancestor type is TButton), I get the error message "[Fatal Error] dclusr.dpk(38): Bad file format: 'i:\delphi6_comps\bpccomps\BPCComp98.dcp'". BPCComp98 is a package created by a now departed programmer, and I am a newbie to creating components from scratch.

Any help very welcome.

Do you need the package that is causeing the problem, if not you can remove it?
It maybe that the source path has been lost, look in directorys /conditionals (though I would expect a file not found error).

Can you open the offending package file?

Have you upgraded our version of Delphi since this package was last compiled?

I have opened up the package.

When I compile or build it, it seems to be fine.

But when I do a syntax check of the package, I get a message:

[Fatal error] Bad file format: 'BPCComp98.dcp'
