a drive went bad in the A1000. Replaced drive and RM6 gui showed the drive as REPLACED. The gui showed reconstructing was waiting. I did a manual recovery, failed the drive and then started reconstruction. But the gui and the cli (drivutil -p) both showed reconstructing pending.

The drive capacity is equal to the other drives.
When does the drive go OPTIMAl? Is it after the reconstruction?

I left the drive reconstructing overnite but no action.
I manually started this morning and no reconstruction.

For RAID 1,3, and 5, once the drive is replaced, the reconstruction should start automatically (it may take awhile depending on the size of your disks). My admin team encountered a problem on our A1000 (8-18Gb drives) exactly like yours and all we did was replace the drive, run rm6 and check the status of the reconstruction. We did change the performance of the reconstruction in the "Maintenance and Tuning" window though. It took over five hours for the reconstruction to complete.

If you check the status and it shows "NO LUN Reconstruction," try opening the Recovery window and selecting the "Recovery Guru" icon (stethoscope). Select the new drive from the list and select "Show Procedure" button in the bottom left hand corner of the window. It should take you through the procedure from there. soladm
