Bad Cabinet?

I know, I'm full of questions today.

Have another MICS 6.x (different from the other two questions) that we're trying to setup a T1 card for long distance calls.

I've tried several different cables and have swapped out cards, but I can't get the T1 card to communicate with the SmartJack from the TELCO.

I'm also getting an alarm code of 74-21 or 74-24 (I lost my notes, so I'm not sure exactly which one it is). Is this a bad cabinet or something else?

Thanks,
Westley

Is this just a T1 or a PRI Circuit?
Have you gotten with the carrier and made sure that their end is up? They could be in a maintenance mode.
Do you have a Service or Combo card?

Hawks is right. The MICS at this software level will not recognize the digital trunk card without a services or combo card installed in the system.

Also check to see that your cable is 8-conductor straight-through.

To the best of my knowledge I should have a combo card installed.

I'm off location, but this is what I should have installed:

MICS 6.1 cabinet
- 6-port fiber expansion card
- 4x0 DS Loop card
- DT1 Digital Trunk Card

Expansion cabinet
- 4x0 DS Loop Card
- E&M tie line trunk card

FastRAD, SMDR, & CP-100

Now that we're finally recovering from Hurricane Ivan, I'll contact Sprint to double check the line itself.

Thanks, Westley

You need a combo card or services card. A Plain 6 port expansion card will not do

Short of turning the system off and pulling the card out, is there any other way to tell if I have a plain fiber card or a combo card?

Thanks,
Westley

It will say combo on it. NTBB25GA is the part number. Hope this helps.

Yup, on the top in large black letters! Can't miss it. Error 74 is usually not good. Has to do with frame slips, I think. Took us a long time to get our T1 vendor to fix our frame slip issue. The T1 worked fine, it just popped up some error from time to time. Turned out the swapped pairs into the building and it went away.

Turns out the vendor installed a regular fiber card instead of a combo card. Waiting on a new card and then a day to run out and make the switch.

Will keep you posted on the results, although it will probably be at least another week before I make it out there.

Time for a new vendor. Norstar 101 for having Services or Combo card with DTI.

I've been leaning that way for a while now. Bought two systems from these guys, mainly because they offered what were suppose to be plug-n-play systems. Everything was shipped to me already mounted on boards and I just had to punch down the phone lines and station lines.

Unfortunately, I think I had systems that were too complicated for them, hence some of my recent posts.

And the more I start snooping around the systems myself, the more I learn that they don't know.

I will explore some of the vendors who have posted to this forum for my next Norstar system.

I always sell the 6 port combo, no matter what the MICS configuration is (if they need fiber expansion). That way you always have the right card in place. The cost difference between 6 port and 6 port combo is like $50.

Some vendors like to shave off as much fat as they can, but that ends up costing the customer more $ in the long run. Not that that is a bad thing, but we don't do it!

Westley, was not trying to be smart a%#- Just wanted you to know the issues you had brought up should be easy for a qualified vendor to handle for you in a timely manner.

BagsNYC,

I didn't take it as a smart comment. Sorry if I gave that impression.

I've been very disappointed with the service I've received from this vendor and just need to research the folks on this forum.

May end up needing another system faster than I was expecting, so I do have to speed up my research.
