I had trouble with my Laptop hard drive, my applications were not starting and laptop very slow. Event viewer reported bad block. I ran diskscan on start up and Windows XP seemed to repair the bad block and move data.

Is my problem solved or is it advisable to replace my hard disk?

Thanks
JP

Backup, verify your data and replace would be my advice.

You may find, after connecting the old drive in an external case, formatting and running chkdsk, that it was just a 'soft' error - in which case you'll have a useful backup drive.

Thanks, the Laptop is still under warranty with Toshiba, would this error justify a replacement drive do you think?

If it's a hard error, yes but warranty may be affected if you have removed the drive, I don't know what Toshiba are like about owners cracking the case open.

Do you have system recovery disks? (just a thought, many suppliers now include a method of creating them from files on the HDD rather than supplying them).

Yes have recovery disks, I will use them to re-install on new drive

Thanks for help
