I heard there is a PAA out there somewhere about the BCM 400 that covers something about bad Cap's on the mother board just like the BCM 1000 had. I have 2 BCM's that are acting just like the bad BCM 1000's I had. you can't talk to the BCM though the IP LAN, Serial port or the Modem Port yet the BCM is working except for the Vmail, phones are working fine.

That sounds like some bad MSC cards I've had to replace on 5, BCM400 version 3.0's.

I was told to look at the capacitors for powder coating on the tops, I haven't noticed it personally.

Replacing the MSC fixed the problem for each site.

PAA-2003-0305 Global is the document I believe you're referring to. This deals with the base function tray issue (typically causes the "red light failure", but I had one a couple weeks back where capacitor C84 on the base function tray threw it's guts up. Nortel advance replaced the tray, even though according to this document the program expired June 2004 - apparently this is happening enough that they extended the program.

biv343 can you send me a copy of this william.haglund@vistacare.com

Does anyone have more info on the BCM 400 Base Tray failing??? I have 2 BCM 400 now that keep losing connection to the Vmail.

Have your vendor contact Nortel ITAS - they will need the part number of the BCM and the release number (NT7B100ADH I believe). If it has that part number and is release 7 or earlier they will send out a replacement base function tray, typically within 1 to 2 days.

If your vendor is not willing to do this, then you may be able to contact Nortel directly and report it as a system down - don't know how far you'll get without a site ID or a contract, but it's worth a shot if your vendor won't step up to the plate and take care of it for you.
