Hi,

I am developing a database client application, and for reasons of efficiency I have chosen to use native RDBMS client libraries instead of ODBC/JDBC.

I have used DB2 version 8.1 to develop a DB2 Client, and my question is what versions of the DB2 server will my client be able to communicate with ? DB2 7.0 servers ? Anyone know how far back 8.1 client library can go regarding versions of the DB2 server ?

Thanks,
Colm.

Hi Colm,

officially supported is Version 7.2 , but be aware that
a) end of support is already 30-09-2004 for workstations(yes !) and there are limitations with different platforms and 32bit/64bit and
b) certain administration features are not available since the system catalog changed between V8 and V7
c) for hosts using a connect gateway you need a V8 connect gateway for V8 clients and a V7 gateway for V7 clients

background: The communication protocoll was changed in V8 to DRDA (which is a good thing to do), but IBM wants to cut off support quickly
