Backups not Finding Media

The last 2 nights the backup has failed because it couldn’t find any media. The media has been in the drive and Arcserve Device Manager has detected it but the backup hasn’t. Yesterday and again today I used Device Manager to format the tape and the Format was successful but the backup still didn’t find any media. Yesterday and today I erased the tape (quick erase only) and after that the backup found the media and has started up.

The backup jobs are set to “Overwrite same media or blank media then any media” so it should not be anything to do with tape name or data on the tape; besides which the job hasn’t changed in ages so why it should fail this week with tapes on which it succeeded 3 weeks ago…?

Any ideas anyone?

We are using Arcserve 2000 Advanced version 7 build 1110

Do a "quick erase plus" on the media and see how it goes

I have solved the mystery

This was due to no disk space on the c drive - it was swallowed up by arcserve chg files. I am surprised the server was even up at all at these was only 45k free.

I shutdown the db and deleted the files - I also reconfigured the engine to delete old files after changes to the db are made as these are automatically re-created when the chg file reaches 2mb.
