Backups from ShadowImage

Does anyone have experience of enterprise backup solutions utilising HDS ShadowImage volumes. I understand these can be 'split', however, is it a necessity that these are mounted to be backed up. Are there any techniques that can be employed with Veritas NetBackup that will negate the need to mount. In a large environment mounting lots of volumes to backup seems rather a overhead.

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Unfortunatly the only way to backup a shadow image volume is by mounting it. It must be visable to a system, any system and mounted to back it up.
