Backups fail on SDLT

Hi there,

I have a Compaq SDLT 110/220 which fails every night on the first job. I am running Arcserve 2000 under Windows 2000 server on an IBM Netfinity 3000. All latest service packs installed. I've rebuilt the server, replaced the SDLT under warranty, changed the SCSI card and cables, re-scheduled the jobs to a different order and eventually changed the entire server!! And it still fails every night on the first job! Failure occurs at different points of the backup job too. Sometimes its 8GB sometimes 21GB etc...
There is nothing in the Windows 2000 event viewer. Arcserve job log simply says "Hardware Error"

Any ideas? Please Help!!

Run a windows backup ... If it works fine then do the following .. if it windows backup fails contact your H/W vendor..

steps to take in arcserve

open registry using regedt32

hkeylocal machine
S/W
Computer associates
arcserve
base
Delete the following key
"tape engine"
restart the tape engine
and run a backup...

if it still fails power cylce both the server and the device.
