Hello
I have netbackup 5 w/mp2 running on windows 2000 server sp4.
I am having a problem whereby some of my backups will show as active for several days (until manually killed and server rebooted) when there is no actual backup taking place.
In the status window of the affected backup, it shows that its writing to tape - and again ...nothing is happening.
any ideas?

I'm having this same problem but on a linux server. Did you ever find a solution to this?

Good suggestion, my first thought too.
I'm at 5.1 MP1 which is the latest version available.
The server is running Redhat Enterprise 3.0. I get both linux and windows clients hanging so I'm figuring it's not the client software. I turned on bpched logging so I'm looking at that for some clues.

what is the next mp if im running on win2k mp3 currently?
i've seen mentions of a mp4 but cant find a location to download.
thanks

Hi,

These are called Ghost jobs. Unless you bounce your Master & media server the Ghost jobs will be active. You can't event kill the jobs.

There are some patches check with Veritas.

Thanks & regards,
Siva

I figured out a way to get rid of the ghost jobs without bouncing the server. All you have to do is suspend the ghost jobs. Once that's done, assuming all other jobs are done, the catalog backup will kick off and all of the tapes that are stuck in the drives will be removed. The next time the backup window opens for the affected clients the previously ghosted jobs seem to run normally.
