BackupExec database files

Where can i manage the BackupExec information database files? Where did it store all data about the media catalogs, job definitions, etc... ?

I thought that is stored on some SQL-based database. But i can't find anything like that. I found some .dat files, but i can't 'read' them. I want to develop an application that access this database, run some queries etc. Somebody knows how i can do that?
