Hi All,

Hoping someone will be able to give me some future advice.

My Network is part of a NT4 domain. I have 6 servers. And I have BackupExec8.6 installed. I have the remote agent so I can backup all 6 servers remotely. I also have the Exchange agent so I can backup my priv.edb, pub.edb and mailboxes.

Here are 3 question2: When I upgrade all my servers to Windows 2000 will I still be able to backup all servers remotely? Will I be able to backup the system state on all 6 servers? When I upgrade from exchange5.5 to exchange2000 will I still be able to backup my databases or will I have to get another agent?

If someone could answer these 3 questions I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks in advance,
Zoey

Hi

We've just gone through the same thing upgrading from 7 to 8.6 and yep, needed a new agent for pretty much everything!!!

It depends on what Agents you purchased. If you originally purchased RANT(BE Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000) then you should have no problem with backing up your upgraded NT4 boxes remotely.

Answer to second question. RANT is required to fully backup W2K and W2K SP2 System State. In addition, too properly backup the system state on your remote W2K boxes, your backup account will need to have Admin privileges on box.

3rd question, again check the name of your Exchange Agent, if somewhere in the name 2000 appears then you will not need to purchase any additional agent for Exchange 2000.

To verify the agents installed, launch the BE browser click on Help then About Backup Exec.

Maverick,

Thanks for your reply's and answers to my questions. This will help me. I am sure when we purchased 8.6 it is for NT/2000. I will check to see if this has the RANT agent and let you know.

Thanks for your help.

We upgraded last year from 4.0 to 2000 and 8.6 works just fine. We also have exchange 2000 and sql 2000. If you have 8.6 nt/2000 and the correct agents to match 8.6 you will be fine. Most people upgrade just the exec program and dont realize you have to upgrade all the agents as well.
