BackupExec 7.3 and StorageTek L180

According to Veritas, the StorageTek L180 is not supported for BackupExec 7.3.

I'm stuck with 7.3 - not allowed to upgrade - I'm also stuck with a beautiful L180.

Has anyone tried (and succeeded) in finding another driver that might work with this combination?

We also have a L180 and we used 7.3.
StorageTek told us to upgrade BackupExec to 8.5 because there was no support for L180 in 7.3

We didn't even try.

It cost us something like USD 10.000 to upgrade from 7.3 to 8.5. We use 8.6 at the moment but we will upgrade to NetBackup 4.5 as soon as we get it.

Why can't you upgrade to 8.6?
If I compare the cost for BackupExec to a L180 with drives and tapes, the big money is in the L180.
