I have a network of four computers. I need to be able to back these computers up to something. The something has to be something that the users don't need to put into thec computer (like a cd etc)... All the computers are networked and I can put a server in with windows 2003 server and can even set that all up as a domain. The users of the Computers are not that Computer literate and I am away from the site for months at a time so I can not be around to ensure it is all working (best i can do is check in through remote desktop). What would people suggest as a way of backing up these computers on at least a weekly basis.... The files that need backing up are office files and Email in MS outlook

Thanks

Best way to backup to LAN

Some form of off-site backup is always recommended.

A server containing all the users' data files would be a good idea to simplify backups. Also if you implemented a server with roaming profiles the users' settings would also be copied back to the server at logoff.

With only one machine to back up you could use an online backup solution scheduled to run automatically. Or if the users are located in a remote office you could possibly set up a VPN and do an incremental backup over a weekend.

As noted in the prior post, consider the use of a Web-based backup service, such as DataProtector ( The backup can be automated, and is quite simple even if initiated manually by the user.
