Hi all,

I'm new to Sharepoint and SQL and would like some advice if someone can help me.

I've got WSS 3 installed on a Win 2003 server which also has SQL 2005 standard installed on it. Basically, I'm looking for the best method to back this up.

I've scoured the internet but as yet have not found a definitive guide to perform backups. I use Backup Exec for the other servers and I see there is a sharepoint agent available. Anybody used it? Does it allow the restore of individual documents within a site?

Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ross

Have you tried the sharepoint built in backup function and then just peform a filebackup using your backup software?
As far as I know there are not really good SharePoint specific agents for BackupExec.

The SharePoint built in backup is not good at all!! I have for our SPS 2003 env. (and will also for our 2007 env) a 3rd party backup software that enables you to make item-level backups, which the built in function will not.
I have been using DocAve from AvePoint for the past 2 years and never had any problems with it. The DocAve downside is the cost, but there are other 3rd party software out there. Just do a search on the net.

Cheers,
Thomas
