All the commotion about these viruses and worms has us updating the servers. My DC was updated with SP4 and the next day noticed that the tape drive was not available as a backup device. I can go into computer management and see it and inventory tapes, eject, etc. I got a message about not having rights to the backup device. We have gone thru rights on the tape drive, reinstall the tape drive, Windows updates. There has got to be a way to get it back into the Backup window. HELP!

Drew,

What backup product are you using?

I have had this problem before when using Arcserve2000. Because AS2K uses its own tape device dirvers I had to manuaully disable the tape devices in W2K. After that, AS2K picked it up fine.

Thanks for the reply. We are using Micrososft Backup, everything was working fine. I could use a file type backup to disk or use the tape drive. The day after I was working on backup and notice no tape devices, the file type backup was in the window. I have tried rights to the drive under Computer Management, Backup rights, taking the drive out of Device Manager and rebooting. How can I remove and reinstall Microsoft Backup and reinstall, can't find it under Add/Remove Programs.
