Backup user

Hi all, I'm trying to implement a new backup user who has access to all filesystems so as to backup all the files in every filesystems. I made the user a member of the 'sys' group but get the following message when logging in as the user:
'.profile[9]:sys:unknown test operator'

The user created also can not view all directories (for example those that have rwx------). Can someone please tell me what's wrong? How do I set up such as user? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi,
I have a same user with group as sys but I don't have any problem in that. You may have to check the .profile
for logging problems.

OK, I fixed the .profile so now I don't get the message anymore. But I still cant view all the directories (those with dwrx------ are not viewable). Does anyone know what's wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
