I have sqlserver 2000 and it contains a database that is constantly recieving data non-stop 24 hours. The data is about 1 Gig a day. Is it necessary to use a different
backup tool instead of the sqlserver 2000 backup tools or will sqlserver tools be able to do the job? For example, Dell offers an Online Backup Pack for -Advanced protection for database applications. Is there a difference?

thanks,
olmos

I have a 24/7 Database. Also getting 1.5 GB of data daily (normally), peaks at 10 GB. The database is currently 270GB.

I use the SQL Server BACKUP DATABASE and BACKUP LOG commands to do backups to disk.

I have never had any problem with this affecting the database nor the backups. My backups take 6+ hours and at no time does it affect anyone using the database.

I then backup the .bak file to tape.
