Backup tomcat

Hi,

I am designing the backup procedure for a linux box running tomcat 4.1.29. I don´t know if I have simply to backup the file systems on wich tomcat is installed, or I have to stop tomcat to do a consistent backup. I do not found documentation about this.

What is your definition of a "consistent" backup ?

If you are justing copying the logs etc that tomcat generates, then you don't need to stop the service.
