We back up our exchange server every 2 hours to an offsite backup server that is not in the domain. I've written a simple batch file to rename the differential backup according to the date and time and then move it to the offsite server (mapped as f:\). Everthing works fine when the batch file is run from the prompt, but it doesn't move the file when run from the Task Scheduler. We've called Microsoft and they couldn't figure it out either. Any suggestions?

Hi

Is the schedule running with no user logged on. If so then the F: doesn't exist. It will only exist in the user profiles.

Hope this helps

instead of backing up to drive: f:backup to the UNC equivilant, like: \\offsiteservername\sharename

As long as the task is scheduled to run as a user that has permissions on that share, it will run fine without anyone logged in.

That was it. On the local server the task was run as DOMAIN\Administrator. Even though the remote computer has the same administrator account and password, it is not in the domain. I should've thought of that, oh well. Thanks.
