Hi, I'm new to netbackup, have normally used backup exec.

Is there an option to Back up to file in netbackup. I have played around with it but cannot find this option.

Please can someone let me know how to set this up.

Thanks :)

NetBackup will only backup files as an "image" via a "storage unit". A NetBackup image has this naming convention $CLIENTNAME_Ctime. The first step is to create a storage unit. A storage unit can be a tape, disk, or disk staging.

A tape storage unit is pretty easy to understand and configure. The NetBackup image with the naming convention described above is directly written to the tape.

A disk storage unit is best thought of as a "folder" for the backup image that is then stored in the folder.

A disk staging unit is first an image that is briefly stored in a disk storage unit during the backup window and then during the non-backup window times it can be "migrated" to tape via a tape storage unit.

Just because the VERITAS documentation states something as certain, that does not make it a fact and that is truth.
