I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem.
We have an S8700 running 3.1.2 and an S8500 running 4.0.1 as an ESS off fof the S8700.All was fine until recently when the nightly save trans stopped working after running daily for 7 or 8 months.
Anyone have this same issue?
If so,what is the resolution?
Thanks

Have you checked your scheduled backups? It could have become distorted or it may have been removed somehow. Sounds like you have checked the Backup History.

It is not recommended to have different version of CM load on this kind of design. This issue is natural if your gonna mix different CMs.

Corruption on the translation will most likely seen. Ideal should be:

1. Any CM load on the primary server must match LSP/ESS
2. During upgrades, LSP/ESS should be upgraded first before the primary server.

Why is it so? Newer release of CM has newer commands than the old one (old CM cannot translate these new commands on the way they understand it), though avaya is telling that it is backward compatible however corruptions of translations is really seen. It will normally work at first but later on it will get corrupted.

Right,but upgrades from R3 to R4 are not free$$$$$$.
We would have to upgrade 19 sites!
Question is,how long can we buy 3.1?
We are adding LSP's to this network and will be for years.

AVAYA has commited to mainting up to 2 releases back. They will also continue selling CM3 LSP licenses, since its really only a license you are buying.

Even if you decide to stay at CM3, you shuold at least upgrade all of your LSPs to CM 3.1.4, which seems to be a very stable release, and probably the final-final release of CM3. AVAYA has moved onto CM4, and CM4. When CM6 is released, I wouldn't expect to see much if any support for CM3 any longer.

Right-so you have to love Avaya. They expect the customer to pay tons of money for "upgrades" that will give them nothing in the way of day to day operations.
Oh well-everybody upgrades their computers every 5 minutes but nobody wants to sspend money on phones.....

If the license for the main server is R13 I don't see how the ESS can be licensed at R14?

They software on the ESS maybe CM4 but in RFA the software version for the ESS MID must surely match MID 1?

Your configuration is perfectly valid. If you take a look at Communication Manager Software & Firmware Compatibility Matrix , you will find that Main server at CM3 and ESS at CM4 is compatible.
The times I have had issues with file sync is when I had the ESS pointing to the wrong interface on the Main server. But if you had it working for a while that's not likely the issue.
