Trying to set up a job to backup to disk - there's no tape drive available at the moment, so in the meantime, I need to backup to disk.

Created a File type device, pointing it to a directory in the disk where i want the backups to go. The backups ran fine, until it ran out of space (supposedly). It's now giving me a message that says "waiting for one writeable volume to backup pool Default on servername." There's still 48 GB left on the drive though.

in the beginning, it wouldn't start the backups until i created a volume. now it says the volume has 19 GB and that it's full. i don't understand how Networker is seeing the virtual volume ...........

Please help ..... Thanks!

You should check if there's a "max size" field at
the ressource definition, or something like that.
You'll probably have to use the "Display Hidden Attributes"
option over Windows (and show details on UNIX).

Alternatively, on the 'device', do an edit, go to the volumes tab (you still need to have selected to show hidden attributes) and look for volume default size and max size. If unset or 0, then it should be able to use the lot.

I checked the volumes tab on the device, and there is nothing specified in the volume default and volume current capacity fields. also selected the hidden attributes checkbox and looked through all the available tabs, but there isn't a max size field or anythign like it.

i called tech support, and they had me create another device pointing to a different directory, and a different volume. it worked for a while, but it filled the volume up to 19 GB, and now is prompting again for another volume.

i don't want to have to create another device for every 19 GB i want to back up. there is still about 38 GB available on the disk.

thanks.

What version are you using? I am using 6.2 and this does show the entries I mentioned.

I am running 6.1.1. When I rightclick on the file type device and click on the volumes tab, there are two fields labeled volume default capacity and volume current capacity. I have tried leaving these fields blank, and that didn't work. I have also tried specifying a number in those fields, (right now both are set to 30GB), and it's still prompting me to insert a new volume.

There is 30 GB free on that drive right now. I'm backing up to the D drive, which is made up of 2 72 GB disks, which are mirrored. Could this setup be affecting it somehow?

This is overly simple, but have you checked to see whether the volume has been set to ready only? I have had this happen and changing the setting back to appendable solved the problem.

Thanks lasteve! That was the problem.

Thanks to everyone for their help.
