I've just downloaded the new patch to enable backup to disk rather than tape. I've two servers at one site and I want to backup each one to the other. I only have Arcserve installed on one of the servers and client agent on the other. While I can back up from the server without Arcserve to the second server, I can't backup to the second server.

Does anyone know why this is?

Hi,
Ummm how are you trying to backup to the second server? Are you going through the network neighbourhood, or are you mapping a drive? Have you attempted to go through using the Distributed File Sytem (assuming your on win2000 server?)

Guru,

I've mapped to the second server and configured an area through device configuration. However whenever I run a job to that device I get the same error message as if I was running to a tape drive and there was no media in the drive.

Zbackup,
I have tested this remotely with a mapped drive and receive the same problem (i.e. the drive comes up as being media-free), I am yet to test with DFS, but will try and get back top you.
Have you tried it with DFS or through the network straight? When you click on browse in the device config, go to network and find the computer, then find the drive etc...?

It doesn't let you configure the drive apart from through a mapped drive. All I get is invalid folder name errors when I try through DFS or through the network.

Darn, I know. I am getting the same problems. Perhaps it just isn't supported remotely?

That's what I suspect. I was just wondering if anyone had found a way around it.

Thanks,

Well, the good news is I got it to backup succesfully to a mapped drive, the bad news is I couldn't restore from it.

hehehe darn... back to the drawing bored.
